Industrial Smart Operations Management requires synthesizing information based on data from many sources, making decisions based on that information, and relaying the resultant information to multiple systems and people.
While some decisions require the broad general knowledge of operations managers, many routine decisions, which only require specific knowledge, can be made by computer algorithms thereby automating much of the "intelligent grunt work" which otherwise would consume much of the time each day of operations mangers and their staff.
Traditionally these decision-making rules and algorithms, as well as the data exchanges with all the different systems which are used in operations tracking and management, were coded by expert programmers.
The goal of Tau Adaptor is to make it possible for business analysts, manufacturing engineers, systems integrators, and IT people, to configure and program this decision making, without needing to be expert programmers.
To do this Tau Adaptor abstracts the exchange of data with databases and systems into a high-level set of abstractions which enable people who are not expert programmers to easily configure rules which control data capture and to write short Python scripts to control the information exchange and routine decision making.
In practice, Tau Adaptor is a set of libraries, interfaces, and methods used by the SmartOpsMgt's suite of smart industrial operations management software.
In order to fully understand and take advantage of software platforms such as BellHawk and MilramX, which are based on these libraries, as well as software packages such as WIPtracker, SmartOps24x7, and iMTATs that are built on top of these packages, it is important to understand Tau adaptor principles.
